A person may have been asked to leave their current accommodation by family or friends with whom they have been living. The local authority should be sensitive in such cases and conduct proper investigations to establish if the person is homeless. In some cases they may be unable to stay in their accommodation and possibility that for some people it may not be safe for them to remain in, or return to, their home because of a risk of violence or abuse.
Young people (16 and 17 year olds ) may also be threatened with exclusion from the family home, children’s services authorities will be the lead agency, but should work closely with housing authorities to prevent homelessness and support young people to remain within the family network, wherever it is safe and appropriate for them to do so.
