Our clients, J and K, both paramedics, faced allegations of misconduct in relation to an abusive patient — that they had not provided the appropriate level of care.
Video footage showed some of the interactions between J, K and the patient. The crew had also called the police to intervene.
Rebecca and Alexia made separate submissions for each registrant, alongside an application to amend allegations that, as drafted, alleged no actual wrongdoing, and reflections and positive references for both.
The Investigating Committee agreed that even if the facts could be found proved, the obvious and sustained abuse faced by the paramedics was such that fellow professionals would not consider their conduct to have fallen seriously below the standards expected.
The panel therefore determined that there was no case to answer. The case against both J and K concluded with no further action.
