D, a registered nurse, admitted to breaching professional boundaries by entering into a relationship with a patient he had treated. The allegations, and the harm that the former patient reported experiencing when the relationship ended, were serious in nature.
With Laura’s advice and guidance, D produced a series of detailed reflections over a 12-month period, demonstrating his deep insight into the gravity of the conduct and his genuine efforts to remediate. As a result, the NMC’s Case Examiners decided that there was no case to answer, instead issuing D with a warning.
D’s case serves as a good example of how, with positive engagement and meaningful reflection, even the most serious FtP matters can be concluded at the earlier stages of the process, without the need for a full panel hearing of the case.
